Drupal Camp NYC 2

Posted in

Do people use the term "version 2.0" or "v2" when referring to the sequel of an event anymore? I think that was a short and fast geek phase that we all went through but I'm very glad that we're over it (we are right?).

Its that time again, time for another Drupal Camp!

What the heck is Drupal camp? It actually quite simple.

Drupal Geeks + big space + free food + one weekend = Drupal Camp!

Drupalites (those that use Drupal) get together for a weekend and we talk about Drupal. More importantly we teach each other how we use Drupal and learn new ways to use the software. Its very similar to a conference with the distinct difference that instead of some company organizing the event it is created by the attendees themselves, if a particular session looks boring well you, as an attendee, can change it or you can offer to help teach it.

Although Drupal Camp is all about Drupal the camp itself is part of the Barcamp series which is a fancy way or saying "Hey you guy lets go get a beer and talk about X". For example Rootscamp pulled a bunch of people together to talk about non-profits and social change and a standard barcamp gets geek together to talk about geeky things.

At the last barcamp I talked about Drupal with a friend of mine Sam Tressler using my site CmTickets.com as an example. Our audience wasn't immense but it was a pretty good session. Cmtickets is starting to be used more and more so I will probably talk about it again at this DrupalCamp.

Alright I think that's enough Drupal talk today, if you're in NY for that weekend you should consider coming out to the camp.

Drupal Camp NYC 2006

Over Mother's day weekend I went to a drupal camp held at Brooklyn Polytechnic University in... well ya Brooklyn. From my place on Willoughby it was a full 2 blocks to the university. Over 60 people showed up for the event and they were from all over the east coast.

New Site

You may have noticed that the site has changed a bit. I upgraded the site to use the Drupal CMS which is a change from the Jetbox CMS. Drupal has a really clean design and an incredible amount of functionality. Everything has been migrated and you'll notice that all of my previous entries are now back on the site (back to 2003!)

There is something about that though. The old entries used an old markup language of escaping and other things that were processed pre and post database. Drupal does it completely different so you'll notice weird marking. In time I'll go through them and clean it up. But hey they are there.

Ok. so enjoy the new site, check out the google maps, videos and the RSS feeds. Whoo hoo! (Click on track the geek.)
